The mission of the Metro Public Health Department is to promote physical and mental well-being and prevent disease, injury and disability for everyone in Nashville.

Our Governance
A six member Board of Health appointed by the Mayor and confirmed by vote of the Metro Council governs the Department.

Our Organization Director of Health The Director of Health provides direct oversight of Policy Development, Epidemiology, Public Information, Civil Service Medical Examiner and Preparedness Programs. Population Health The purpose of the Population Health Line of Business is to provide early detection, intervention, and prevention services to groups of people at risk in Nashville so they can reduce their risk of illness and injury due to immediate health threats. Environmental Health The purpose of the Environmental Health Line of Business is to provide assessment, information, and protection products to everyone in Nashville so they can experience healthy living conditions through clean air, safe food, and reduced exposure to environmental health and safety hazards. Family, Youth, and Infant Health (FYI Health) The purpose of the Family, Youth, and Infant Health Line of Business is to provide a system of health care services, coordination, and follow-up products to the Nashville community so they can experience wellness. Administration and Finance The purpose of the Administration and Finance Line of Business is to provide administrative support services (human resources, billing and collections, payroll, building maintenance and security, etc.) to all programs within the Health Department so they can efficiently and effectively deliver results for customers. Health Services Access The purpose of the Health Services Access Line of Business is to provide health information, consultation, health access linkage, and medical service products for at risk populations, and partnering community health organizations so they can experience improved health status.
