Tennessee Adolescent Pregnancy and Prevention Program (TAPPP) Council

  • Meeting was called to order at 3:05 p.m. by Tamika L. Smith

    • Kayce Matthews (Planned Parenthood)
    • Danielle Mezera (Metro Social Services)
    • Pamela Taylor (Metro Public Health)
    • Lateesa Posey- Edwards (VUSN/MPHD)
    • Jennifer Burks (Project STAR/Centerstone)
    • Mary Bufwack (United Neighborhood Health Services)
    • Tamika Smith (Metro Public Health)

§         Introductions

§         Approval of Minutes

§         Danielle Mezera Presentation

    • What type of group do you want to be active or passive?
    • Ideas from TAPPP Council Members about group type
      • Active can be difficult given activities already taking place
      • May be easier and more useful to connect with existing organizations
      • Do inventory of all existing programs and services
      • Identify gaps
      • Expert needed to keep council updated on research findings, best practices, and etc
      • Would there be a place for the council to be active without stepping on other toes
      • Need an understanding of current landscape to see what our role should be
      • Council should be an information resource and sharing entity
      • Council members could be connectors between council and other existing groups such as Alignment Nashville

§         Discussion on National Day to Prevent teen Pregnancy (May 2nd)

    • Contact D’Yuanna Allen to get update on her meeting with Metro parks and Metro Public Libraries
    • Kayce Matthews will contact Looby center (dependent upon information D’Yuanna has)
    • Press and Publicity
      • Invite parents to take the test

      • Pre- determined group of children

o       Testing Locations

      • Lateesa Posey- Edwards will contact Tennessee State University Computer Lab

§         Announcements

    • Kayce announced the Planned Parenthood’s Sex and Media Workshop entitled: What You See Is What You Get: Sexuality and the Media; the workshop will be held on Thursday, April 12, 2007 from 8:30 a.m.- 3:30 p.m. at Tennessee State University’s Avon Williams Campus.

§         Meeting adjourned at 3:45 p.m.

Next meeting is scheduled for Tuesday, March 27, 2007, 3:00 PM- 4:30 PM Metro Nashville Public Health Department Room 212.
