METRO PUBLIC HEALTH DEPARTMENT
NASHVILLE, TN
-
There have been no cases of avian flu in the U.S.
-
There have been limited cases in Asia, but no signs of it spreading in humans
yet.
-
Metro Government in conjunction with partners from the State Government
continues preparations to respond to an outbreak of the avian flu, even though
there is no current threat.
-
The current available flu vaccine does not protect against avian flu.
-
However, it is strongly recommended that high risk individuals take this
vaccine to protect themselves during the usual flu season.
-
Tamiflu is the most widely discussed treatment for avian flu. The Federal
Government is stockpiling this drug.
