Flu-Like Illness Increases in Davidson County NASHVILLE, Tenn. February, 21, 2008 –Health care providers in Davidson County reported 1,278 cases of flu-like illness to the Metro Public Health Department during the past week, compared to 384 the previous week. Flu season typically peaks in early to mid February in middle Tennessee. According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), influenza or flu-like symptoms include:
Fever greater than 100 degrees F The best protection against influenza is to get a flu shot every year. The CDC says it is not too late to get a flu shot even after the start of the flu season. Those who do not get a flu shot should consider the following steps to prevent the spread of flu and cold germs this time of year.
Influenza (Flu) season in the Nashville area typically begins each year in mid-December and runs through the end of March. The Health Department continues to offer flu shots for a $20 fee (Medicare Part B and TennCare is accepted). Flu shots will be available from 8 a.m. –3 p.m., Monday through Friday. Flu shots are offered on a walk-in basis at the Health Department’s East Health Center, located at 1015 East Trinity Lane; Woodbine Health Center, located at 224 Oriel Avenue, and Lentz Health Center, located at 311 23rd Avenue North.
