Metro Animal ControlHosts North Shore Animal League’s Tour for Life EventNASHVILLE, Tenn., March 2, 2007 -- Metro Animal Control is pleased to announce that Nashville has been selected as a tour stop for the fifth year in a row for the North Shore Animal League’s Tour for Life event-- the world’s largest cooperative pet adoption event. Nashville is one of only a few locations nationwide to be selected as a host site. The free event helps bring awareness to shelters as the best places to adopt pets. North Shore operates three mobile adoption units, visiting various cities across the country from the Golden Gate Bridge to New York City. This year’s event will be held at Metro Animal Control’s facility at 5125 Harding Place Saturday, April 21st, from 10 a.m. until 5 p.m. “Being selected to participate for the fifth year in a row is a tremendous compliment to our program,” says Judy Ladebauche, director of Metro Animal Control. “We are very fortunate to have this opportunity yet again. It’s very exciting to be one of the Tour locations and to invite nearby shelters to share this extra attention in finding responsible homes for adoptable animals.” “Last year Metro Animal Control adopted more animals than we have ever adopted in one day,” Ladebauche said. “And the other shelters that participated were able to adopt several animals too.” Emmy Lou Harris will participate in the event as well as other surprise guests. Other animal shelters including Nashville Humane and Rover, Rutherford County Animal Control, Wilson County Humane and Walden’s Puddle have been invited to be here with us to promote responsible pet ownership and adoptions. There will be giveaway items for people and pets, including pet treats, food samples, toys, pet lover bracelets and fingerprinting ID of children by the Davidson County Sheriffs Department. Micro-chips for permanent ID on pets will be available for $25. “We also devote space at each event to educate the public about how important spaying and neutering is in helping solving the pet overpopulation problem. It’s a problem we would truly love not to have,” Ladebauche said. For more information about the Tour for Life event please contact Metro Animal Control at 862-7928.
