 Flu Shot Update from the Metro Public Health Department
 

NASHVILLE, Tenn., October 20, 2004 -- The Metro Public Health Department will continue offering flu shots, Thursday, October 21. Shots will be offered from 8 a.m. until 3 p.m.

Flu vaccine will be offered only at the Lentz Public Health Center, 311 23rd Avenue North.

The Health Department will offer flu shots for $10, Medicare Part B and TennCare are accepted.

Due to the recent announcement of a flu vaccine shortage, the Metro Public Health Department will follow Centers for Disease Control and Prevention’s (CDC) recommendation of providing flu shots only to Davidson County residents at high risk of dying from flu-related illness.

The CDC has identified the following priority groups to receive flu vaccine:

  • all children aged 6-23 months;
  • adults aged 65 years and older;
  • persons aged 2-64 years with underlying chronic medical conditions. Chronic disease is defined by adults and children with chronic lung, including asthma, or heart disease, diabetes, renal dysfunction, sickle cell disease, and immunocompromised disorders such as HIV and AIDS.
  • all women who will be pregnant during the influenza season;
  • residents of nursing homes and long-term care facilities;
  • children aged 6 months-18 years on chronic aspirin therapy;
  • health-care workers involved in direct patient care; and
  • out-of-home caregivers and household contacts of children less than six months of age.
  • The Health Department will verify high-risk group as follows:

  • Must bring prescription bottle to verify chronic disease.
  • Must bring photo identification to verify age and Davidson County residency.
